“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience;
we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

~ Teilhard de Chardin
The Center for Contemporary Mysticism is a member-supported community organization committed to enriching the human experience through a better understanding of the spiritual and mystical dimensions of life. Toward this goal the Center offers a wide variety of programs, classes and events ranging from mindfulness to metaphysics and from spiritual exploration to music and the arts. While most of the programs and events take place in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestnut Hill, the Center is an independent, nonprofit organization open to persons of all faiths or no faith. Begun in October 2013, the Center now has members throughout the greater Philadelphia area, plus a large online following through its website and social media. For more specific information and background, read on.

BACKGROUND
For thousands of years, the spiritual and mystical dimensions of life have been part of human experience—from faith in a divine being to belief in angels, from unexplainable knowledge to messages from deceased loved ones, from premonitory dreams to near-death experiences. Unfortunately, today, in the age of modern, material science these experiences are seldom taken seriously and are often viewed with suspicion. Yet, a vast body of scholarly research indicates such experiences continue to occur and are far more common than generally thought. In almost every survey or discussion on these topics, people tell of unexplainable or mysterious events which have occurred in their lives or in the life a loved one. And, sadly, these individuals have no one to tell and nowhere to go to share their experiences—which can often be profoundly comforting and even life altering.

GOALS AND ACTIVITIES
The primary goals of the Center are to: (1) provide a community for those who wish to better understand the spiritual and mystical dimensions of life; (2) to offer tools and resources for those interested in deepening these aspects of their own lives; and (3) to be a "safe forum" for those who may have personally experienced unusual or unexplainable occurences in their lives, and who are struggling to better understand them. Toward these goals, the Center offers a wide variety of programs and classes, study and development groups, online video resources, and a library. While most programs and resources are located in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Center is an independent, member-supported, nonprofit organization. All activities are open to the public and sincere persons of all faiths or no faith are welcome.
