Journeying with the Mystics
RETURNS IN THE SPRING — TUESDAY EVENINGS
An Exploration of Mysticism & Mystics
Mysticism and Mystics throughout the ages have a lot to teach us about our own spiritual journeys. We are not attempting to make you an expert on various mystics, but use various mystics to enhance each participant’s capacity for their own mysticism and to discover more enchantment in daily life. Consequently, this is not a lecture course. Seven-minute presentations of a mystic are followed by questions and discussion. We have explored mystics of various traditions such as Meister Eckhart, Hildegard of Bingen, Abraham Joshua Heschel, Mechthild of Magdeburg and Beguines, Howard Thurman, and Celtic mystics such as Melangell.
Participants can suggest mystics and even offer presentations. One such mystic was Choctaw elder Steven Charleston. Of the presentation about him, he observed, “I think you have captured dimensions I had not noticed before.” Participants write, “I couldn’t help but think that Hildegard’s visions were reminiscent of many of my own…” “I appreciated the thought-provoking presentations and lively discussions!” “Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed joining you and Mystics this week… and am looking forward to more!”
Journeying with the Mystics is held each spring and fall on Zoom with participants from all over the country. Each session begins at 7 p.m. Eastern time, and finishes up by 8:15 p.m. Leadership is shared by Cliff Cutler and Sherri Retif, both Board Members of the Center for Contemporary Mysticism. PLEASE NOTE: While there are no fees, registration is required due to limited enrollment space. For more information about the next “Journey” or to register please contact: journeywithmystics@gmail.com.
